Background
Nial Fuller is one of the most well-known forex educators globally, teaching a stripped-down price action approach to trading forex. He won the Million Dollar Trader Competition in 2016 with a 369% return. His methodology focuses on trading a small number of high-probability candlestick patterns at key levels, with an emphasis on daily chart trading and low screen time.
Core Methodology
Fuller's approach is deliberately simple: identify the trend on the daily chart, find key support/resistance levels, and wait for specific price action signals (pin bars, inside bars, fakey setups) at those levels. He advocates trading the daily chart exclusively for most traders, arguing that lower timeframes create noise, overtrading, and psychological stress.
Key Trading Rules
- Trade the daily chart only — lower timeframes create noise and overtrading
- Identify the trend using the 8-day and 21-day EMAs — above both = bullish, below both = bearish
- Wait for price action signals at key levels: pin bars (rejection), inside bars (breakout), fakey patterns (false breakout reversal)
- Only take signals that align with the prevailing trend at obvious support/resistance levels
- Risk 1-2% per trade maximum. Reward-to-risk of 2:1 minimum.
- Trade less: 4-8 trades per month. Quality over quantity. 'Set and forget' after placing the trade.
